------------------------------------
Ivan the Terrible initiated Russia’s expansion into Siberia In the 16th century, driven by the allure of its furs and musks, including Moschus Moschiferus, whose musk pods are worth more than gold. This led to overhunting and an eventual risk of endangerment for the species.
By the 17th and 18th centuries, under the leadership of Tsar Peter the Great, explorers and Cossacks pushed further into uncharted Arctic territories, mapping the vast tundra and extending Russia’s influence as far as Alaska. They faced brutal landscapes, secured vital trade routes, and managed natural resources as they went, sustaining the fur and musk trades for future generations.
This fragrance embodies the spirit of those who endured unforgiving conditions to carve out their legacies, evoking the splendor of the noble families enriched by the natural treasures of the tundra during the Great Northern Expedition.
Profile Description:
A botanical gin inspired opening with tingly notes of juniper berry, coriander, white thyme, and pink pepper pairs with a small dose of menthol crystals to create a cooling sensation in the top, reminiscent of the harsh, cold air of the tundra. A drop of ice water helps to smoothen the transition into the heart.
Terpenic woody notes including black spruce provide a nippy bitterness to the heart, painting in the impression of coniferous trees lining the edge of open snow fields and mountains, while the dry down consists of the very material itself, genuine Siberian deer musk tincture, macerated with natural ambrette seed extract to soften its pheromonal undertones and allow its powdery aspects to shine.
