Calytrix exstipulata, aka Kimberley heather, is a hardy shrub endemic to the monsoon regions of Australia's Northwestern bushland. Its pine-like leaves and pink star-shaped flowers that bloom only in peak dry season give off a cool smelling eucalyptol-rich perfume.

However, being a plant that only grows wild, in remote regions, and having a very low yield, very few finished perfumes containing the oil exist on the market. What a shame, as I believe this material is not only worthy of being used, but of being the star ingredient (no pun intended) in a soliflore composition.

THE BRIEF

This perfume was formulated to accentuate Mother Nature's work, using small amounts of other local materials to give the impression of the shrub in it's natural environment.

THE PROFILE

Starting with a whopping 25% Kimberley Heather absolute, expect a bright, fresh opening, quickly developing into warm leafy mids with waxy floral undertones that build slowly, eventually transitioning into a resinous woody base reminiscent of cypress. To this, sprinklings of various floralisers were added, including a one-off wild local wattle oil with notes of sparkly pink lemonade, as well as a tiny bit of local sandalwood and some light synthetic woody notes, lending a clear structure and amplifying the lacquered finish.
